A woman was fatally injured in a traffic crash in the West Town neighborhood on the North Side early Saturday, police said.

At 12:40 a.m., police responded to a two-vehicle accident at West Division Street and North Elston Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

The woman was driving a Dodge when she was "T-boned" by a man driving a commercial van, according to Wood District Sgt. Harry Jozefowicz. The front of the van hit the driver's side of the Dodge, he sad. The man was being questioned by police, but no citations have yet been issued, Jozefowicz said.

The woman, in her 50s, was found unresponsive and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she later died, Alfaro said.

Fire personnel transported a woman in critical condition from the location to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to a Fire Media Affairs spokesman, who could not immediately give a time of when the transport was made.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office was notified of the death of a 53-year-old woman who was killed in a traffic accident early Saturday, but the office was unable to confirm that this woman was involved in the crash at Division and Elston. The woman whose death they were notified of was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. at an unknown location from a traffic crash, also at an unknown location.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
