Woman badly hurt in hit-and-run on Northwest Side

A 21-year-old woman was critically injured Monday evening when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the city's Cragin neighborhood, police said.

Officers and paramedics responded to the accident shortly before 7 p.m. on the 3300 block of North Long Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.

A southbound vehicle struck the woman while she was attempting to cross the street, O'Brien said. The driver fled the scene.

The woman was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, he said.

Police describe the vehicle as a black or dark blue Audi.

As of this morning, no one was in custody.
