Three dead in Northwest Side crash

Tuesday, 2 February 2010 14:00 by Admin

Two men and a 1-year-old boy were killed in a multi-vehicle wreck Monday night on the  Northwest Side.

Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said two men and a male child have died in the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Cicero and Parker avenues that happened at 9:40 p.m. The crash was initially reported by police News Affairs as a four-vehicle crash.

A Toyota of an unidentified model that was southbound on Cicero struck a Honda of an unidentified model that was westbound on Parker, according to Alfaro.

One man was dead on the scene, a male child of an unidentified age was pronounced dead at Children’s Memorial Hospital and another man was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to Alfaro.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the three deaths of two men and a 1-year-old boy, but did not have further details at 3:20 a.m.

Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis initially said only one person was killed and four others -- including a child were critically injured in the “pin in” crash.

An EMS Plan I response, which automatically sends five ambulances, one engine, one truck, one battalion chief, one EMS field officer and one assistant deputy chief paramedic to the scene was initiated about 9:45 p.m. and secured about 10:05 p.m., Curtis said.

A child was initially taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital. Two adults were initially taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and one adult was taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, Curtis said.

Unconfirmed dispatch reports indicate a shooting may have been connected to the crash, but neither police nor fire officials could immediately confirm the shooting.

Alfaro did not know if anyone was in custody for the wreck immediately. The police Major Accident Investigation  Unit continues to investigate.
