A 69-year-old man died after his car was struck from behind at a
North Side intersection, police said.
The collision happened about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hollywood Avenue and Sheridan Road. The force of the crash sent James Chiakulas' vehicle into a light pole, said
Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
Chiakulas told firefighters at the scene that he felt dizzy. He was taken taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
No other injuries were reported.
Greer said no citations have so far been issued or criminal charges filed. But she said the driver of the vehicle that hit Chiakulas could be cited for following too closely.
Chiakulas lived in the 5300 block of North Sheridan Road.
