Girl shot in drive-by in South Chicago neighborhood

A 14-year-old girl was hospitalized Wednesday evening after being shot in the South Chicago neighborhood, officials said.

The girl was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital within the University of Chicago Hospital, said Quention Curtis, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

The shooting happened on the 8800 block of South Houston Avenue at 9:19 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

The girl was standing outside when a male suspect fired shots from a passing vehicle, striking her in the abdomen, according to a release from police News Affairs.

No one is in custody and Calumet Area detectives are investigating
