A Joilet man was hit and killed by a Metra Train Sunday afternoon as he was attempting to cross railroad tracks, officials said.

Blair D. Flatten, 32, was pronounced dead at 3:20 p.m. Sunday at Pilcher Park located at 2501 Highland Park Dr. in Joliet, according to the Will County coroner's office.

The Joliet Herald, quoting relatives, reported Flatten may have been crossing a railroad bridge trying to get to a fishing spot in the park when he was struck by the train.

The Will County coroner's office said it will conduct toxicology tests and an autospy later today.
