Four people were hospitalized after a vehicle rear-ended a CTA bus on the West Side early Monday. The CTA received a report about 1:05 a.m. about a southbound 49 Western bus was involved in an accident,  CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said. The bus was stopped at Western Avenue and Harrison Street when a vehicle rear-ended it, she said.

Four of thirteen passengers on board the bus at the time were reported injured, but of those four, three were transported to hospitals and one person refused transport, according to Hosinki. One passenger from the vehicle that struck the bus was transported to a local hospital, Hosinski said.

Two people were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and two to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County  -- all in fair condition -- according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva. Roccasalva said the crash occurred at 600 S. Western Ave. and involved a CTA bus. The bus was removed from service and there was no re-route, Hosinski said. It is standard procedure for CTA drivers to undergo drug and alcohol evaluations following any crash, Hosinski said.
