Paramedics and firefighters responded at about 7:45 a.m. to a multivehicle crash at the intersection of Western Avenue and Ainslie Street.
They were seen trying to extricate a person from the rear of one of the vehicles, an SUV.
Two people were taken from the scene in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and another person was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Swedish Covenant Hospital, a fire department spokesman said.
Traffic on Western was temporarily shut down.
